Spring Birthday Cookies

Flowers are always a rite of passage into spring. What better way to celebrate than cookie flowers?  And a birthday thrown in to the mix makes them that much better.

St. Pats and Mardi Gras

I did these cookies for my husbands bd and Mardi Gras. The shamrocks are for him to take to his weekly 'guy' meeting with his soccer buddies.

The Mardi Gras cookies were just because. I saw some made like these on FB by Ali Bee's Bake Shop. Her's were incredible. Mine are so so. I just wanted to try and see if I could do it.

Frosting for the Cause

Thank you Paula for willingly doing all the work that goes into this project. I can only imagine how much of your time goes into it.

Cancer has touched my life quite a few times. The greatest loss to it was my mom in 2001. She fought it , but it won. This is such a merciless disease that destroys so many lives. We thought she had survived the worst, but after 13 years, it came back for a second time. My daughter was born when she was first diagnosed. She had fought and won, so what better way to honor her than naming my daughter after her. I sometimes think this wasn't such a good idea because when Mom died, my daughter took it very personally. She has a ribbon tattoo with a heart surrounding it for her grandmother that she drew herself and had the tattoo artist follow. I made a few of the cookies to match her tattoo.

I made breast cancer sugar cookies to send to the Intercommunity cancer center in my area. We usually do the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure on Mother's Day in our area. The donation will go to them. If you have ever participated in a Race for the Cure, you realize just how many people this disease affects. All of those dark pink shirts are for survivors. It's amazing to see just how many women, and a few men, have dealt and won, with this disease. Alot of people wear a sign on their backs for the people they are walking to support, or walking in memory of. I walk in memory of my mom, and in support of my sister who is a survivor. It’s very sad to see the amount of young children who walk in memory of their mom’s. I can’t imagine what it would be like to loose your mother when you are young. I was

in my 40’s, and it was very hard.

Sugar Cookies

3 C. flour

2 sticks butter

1 C.sugar

1 egg

Vanilla extract

1 t. pumpkin pie spice

Combine butter, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Beat till well blended. Add egg and vanilla extract. Beat. Add flour 1 cup at a time until well incorporated.

I roll the dough out before refrigerating it for at least an hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes depending on width of cookie. I usually go for 1/4 inch cookies so they bake 12 to 15 minutes depending on size. Larger cookies need more time.

I like to use plastic squeeze bottles for the icing. I find I have more control with them.
These are the final product. Thanks for looking.
